took a punt on these pickups because…Michael Landau!
originally called the FL (Kirk Fletcher + Michael Landau) model, now renamed to ML, these are available in “classic” and the slightly hotter “standard” version.
I opted for the Standard
SPECS
ALNICO V MAGNET
NECK Measured DC – 6.38 Kohms
MIDDLE (RW/RP) Measured DC – 6.38K ohms
BRIDGE Measured DC – 6.8K ohms
Very nice modern production pickups using techniques to speed up the age of the magnets, resulting in a vintage vibe.
I personally have a love hate relation with the strat bridge pickup position on its own, but do not want to lose the tones of the inbetween position. the FL standard was no exception…but handled all the gain, including using pedals as boosts with ease.
neck position and in-between positions were excellent for clean to verge of breakup tones.
as a set, slightly bright and aggressive all round but easily tamed with the volume and tone controls. in comparison to other pickups, the FL standard would be considered mild next to a Fender Tex Mex set,
Really enjoyed these for a “Rockier” Strat (think Frusciante and Hendrix)
You could do far worse that these single coil offerings from Suhr.
oddly enough, i am also in possession of a Suhr shiba drive pedal, which seemed to only sound really good with these suhr pickups, and mediocre with any other guitar.
